Tents, roofs, tarps, banners, pool liners and pond liners are made out of a thermoplastic material and can be heat welded and repaired with heat guns without the need for glues or sewing. These materials will weld to themselves.
Today you see more billboards, signs, awnings, store fronts, party tents, flat roofs, sports domes and architecture fabrics made from a reinforced thermoplastic coated material. Pool liners and pond liners are typically made of a non-reinforced HDPE, LDPE or PVC liner material.
New thermoplastic liners and membranes are coming on the market every year. These materials can be fabricated and repaired onto themselves simply by heating the two layers of the materials together and then pressing them together with a roller to create the weld. Typically the weld joint is stronger then the material by itself.
Malcom Company has created a heat gun kit to repair these liners which include an assortment of nozzles, rollers and a powerful temperature controlled hot air tool.
